ROMANIA

 

I am currently serving in the U.S. Peace Corps in Romania.

As a trainee (Feb 16 - Apr 30, 2003), I stayed with a Gazda (host family) in Baicoi, which is a bit north of Ploeisti which is a bit north of Bucharest. We had language training in Baicoi, and we had other training (cultural, lectures, etc) in Ploeisti. Everyone had training in Ploeisti, but as for the language training there are were other sites where people were stationed: Plopeni, Campina, and Valenti. All-in-all there were 36 trainees, with about 9 in each of the above-named cities. Since then, 6 have gone back to the USA (as of August, 2003).

Starting in April, 2003, I have been living in Bistrita, which is in Old Transylvania, and is one of the places touted as having connections to Dracula. Look below in Links for more about Bistrita.

I am working at the CeTin Youth Center, a youth center in Bistrita for children aged 12-18. Claudiu is the psychologist there and he has his own web site.
